Fenton John Anthony Hort (1828-1892), English Biblical scholar, educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, "where he was fellow (1852-57), taking the BD in 1875. He became Hulsean professor in 1878 and Lady Margaret's in 1887, continuing in that position until his death. H.'s major contribution to biblical scholarship lay in Textual Criticism of the Greek New Testament, in particular the critical edition he edited with B. F. Westcott in 1881 and for which he wrote the introduction and notes in the second volume. The test was the foundation of the Revised Version of the English Bible on which he also worked." - Hayes, Dictionary of Biblical Interpretation, vol. i. p. 520.
