A history of the church - the author was the pastor at the time of writing - with a good bit of historical detail on the town. Chapter seven deals with the revivals that began in the area after Timothy Dwight became president of Yale College, noting his preaching on the subject. Deming mentions the work of Dwight, Ebenezer Porter, Asahel Nettleton, and others. There are interesting chapters on the Revolutionary War, Church Discipline, The Church and Indians, the Slavery Issue, Civil War Days, &c.
