Charlotte Burgis De Forest (1879-1973), b. Kobe, Japan. The author was the daughter of the pioneer missionary of the A. B. C. F. M., Dr. John H. De Forest. Born in Japan, she was educated in the United States; at the time this book was written she had returned to Japan and was serving as president of the Kobe College for women (1915-1940). She returned to the United States just before WWII.
This is the account of how Japanese women were and had been instrumental in evangelizing Japan, beginning in the 1860's. To insure accuracy of the book, De Forest submitted each chapter to a different Japanese female scholar for review.
