Arthur C. Custance (1910-1985), b. Norfolk, England; d. Brockville, Ontario. Dr. Custance earned his M.A, in Middle East Languages (Cuneiform, Hebrew and Greek) at the University of Toronto and completed his work for Ph.D. in Anthropology but was denied his degree when he confessed he believed that Adam and Eve were real persons. He was granted a Ph.D. in Education by the University of Ottawa in 1959. He was head of the Human Engineering Laboratories in Ottawa. "Dr. Custance was a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute, made a Member Emeritus of the Canadian Physiological Society, a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and, in 1971, was listed in American Men of Science." - Evelyn White, The Arthur C. Custance Centre for Science and Christianity website.
In the 15 years of his retirement and after many years of Bible teaching and scientific writing, he began to focus on a series of books, known as The Doorway Papers, in which he combines Biblical knowledge with scientific fact in a way that he hoped would underscore the authority of Scripture and lead thinking men and women to Christ.
