The author, Clyde Max Bauer (1886-1963), was a geologist and park naturalist in Yellowstone National Park.
The photographer, Jack Ellis Haynes (1884-1962), b. Fargo, ND; d. Bozeman, MT; known as "Mr. Yellowstone," due to his dedicated service. Haynes was the official photographer for Yellowstone National Park. His father, Frank Jay Haynes (1853-1921), was the official photographer for Yellowstone before him (as well as for the Northern Pacific Railway), and the son took over his father's photography business in 1916.
The historic photographs reproduced in this book include those by both father and son.
