A record of the year 1858 from the point of view of the American Congregational Union. It lists officers, ministers, the constitution of the organization, articles of faith, reports from colleges and seminaries, and denominational statistics. The President at this time was the Rev. Leonard Bacon, D.D. There are biographies of twenty-five ministers who deceased that year. There are also wood engravings and descriptions of two church buildings, that of Plymouth Church, Adrian, Michigan and of Winnisimmet Congregational Church, Chelsea, Missouri.
This being the year of the great revival of 1858, there is a "Revival Record" - accounts of revivals sent in by individual congregations, giving at times vivid descriptions of the work of God in their churches. This begins on p. 122 and continues to p. 144.
