Edmund Simon Lorenz (1854-1942), born to Russian emigrants in Dayton, OH. Lorenz was educated at Otterbein U., Union Biblical Seminary, Yale Theological Seminary, and the University of Leipzig. He served as pastor of High Street United Brethren Church in Dayton, and as president of Lebanon Valley College, Annville, PA. He also founded the Lorenz and Company music publishing house in Dayton, OH. He was the author of several hymns.
