Frazer to his wife Josephine M. Frazer.\" Text pages are toned at the edges; there is some foxing to the plates. The steel engravings are on heavy stock; there are hundreds of wood engravings in the text, with some full-page. The steel engravings are sometimes not bound in the proper place; there are 201 of 216 steel-engraved plates present. Vols. III-VI are complete, Vols. I-II lack some plates. There is a list with defects noted below. Good. Appleton \u0026amp; Co. keeps the style of the former, and introduces important American artists such as Winslow Homer, William Merritt Chase, George Inness, Thomas Moran, John Appleton Brown, Edwin Lord Weeks, and others. These profusely illustrated volumes helped to legitimize and popularize American art at at time when European artists were predominant in the field. The Appleton edition was a champion of the \"American School\" and gave the reader access to works of art that could only be found in major cities. It is for the Confirmation of Josephine Frazer of Russellville, at the Trinity [Episcopal] Church in that town, dated 1891. Thomas A.
