Colchester, Connecticut; d. Baltimore, Maryland. After years of private and public service, Watrous was appointed to the US District Court of Texas by President Polk, in 1846. His rulings against several leading Texans and his probable illegal actions regarding land speculations soon resulted in tumultuous calls for his recall; in 1848 the Texas legislature asked for his resignation.
