Somers, New York; d. Salem, Massachusetts. He was educated at Yale College and at the Yale Divinity School, licensed to preach in 1816 and appointed an agent of the American Board of Foreign Commissioners. He traveled the eastern seaboard in support of the ABCFM, preaching and raising money for missionary work among the American Indians of the South. He was the first reported white person to be shown the Etowah Indian Mounds by a group of Cherokee Indians.
