Joel Hawes (1789-1867) remained in Hartford for the next fifty years, and was a successful pastor and author.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLeonard Woods, Sr. (1774-1854), Harvard graduate (1796), ordained pastor of the Congregational Church at West Newberry, Massachusetts (1798), first professor in Andover Theological Seminary, from 1808 to 1846 occupying the chair of Abbot Professor of Christian Theology. He was widely known for upholding orthodox Calvinism over Unitarianism.
