A record of the year 1857 from the point of view of the American Congregational Union. It lists officers, ministers, the constitution of the organization, articles of faith, reports from colleges and seminaries, and denominational statistics. The President at this time was the Rev. Leonard Bacon, D.D. There are biographies of ministers who deceased that year. There is a double-page stippleplate engraving of the interior of the Broadway Tabernacle.
There is a "Revival Record" - accounts of revivals sent in by individual congregations, giving at times vivid descriptions of the work of God in their churches. This begins on p. 136 and continues to p. 155.
