The author was a native of Pennsylvania, a graduate of Houghton College and Princeton Theological Seminary, and an ordained Presbyterian minister. He earned a private pilot's license and was a chaplain in the New York Air National Guard before being posted to the North Atlantic Slope Presbyterian Mission as a missionary pastor-pilot, with his home base being Barrow, Alaska.

"His new parish was 40,000 square miles of tundra which would be ice snow and trouble in the Winter. His people were the Anaktuvuk Eskimos which would be no trouble, but an every-unfolding inspiration...Author Chambers writes of his six years' experience as pastor and family man living as natives in the vast wastes under arctic skies, with heartwarming enthusiasm and dedicated purpose." - publisher.

With 197 unique photographs of life on the Alaskan frontier.
