Dr. Boardman reflects upon his age and upon the advancement of the Christian faith around the world during his lifetime. He died five weeks after preaching this sermon.

George Smith Boardman (1796-1877), a native of Albany, New York. He was educated at Union College (Schenectady) and at Princeton Seminary. After receiving license to preach in 1819, he spent two years on horseback preaching in Ohio and Kentucky. In 1821 he began a series of pastorates in upstate New York, from which he retired in 1865.

"Dr. Boardman was a member of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church which met in Brooklyn, May, 1876. In December before his death he preached a sermon which was published, on the occasion of his reaching fourscore years.
