Amy Allemand Bernardy (1879-1959), born in Florence, Italy, to an American father and Italian mother, journalist and historian, author of the first analytical studies on the Italiian migration. She taught for a period at Smith College in Massachusetts, and set about the task of documenting the conditions of Italian immigrants to the United States, particularly of the women and children.
