The author begins by saying that politics in the United States were not anything to be proud of, and that people are distressed and bewildered. This was an era of strikes and race riots, with Progressives ascending in politics.

The solution, from what we can gather, is Socialism, albeit Christian Socialism.  Brewster, in our view, believes that the Kingdom of God will be advanced by some form of a Socialist state. He attempts to state this while at the same time rejecting "Marxian interpretation" of Socialism. He tries to use the Kingdom of God as a measure of societal advancement, rejects "the philosophy of materialism," and we think idealistically projects a vague idea of a political Kingdom of God as the cure for society's ills.
